About the data
Where do The BAL Report's statistics come from, and how complete are they?
The BAL Report holds 235 Basketball Africa League games from the 2021 to the 2026 season, every one with a complete box score, and 355 Road to BAL qualifying games, 297 of them with a complete box score. Every game comes from data FIBA published.
Where the numbers come from
- Basketball Africa League games
- Box scores, team totals and play-by-play come from FIBA LiveStats, the statistics feed FIBA publishes for each BAL game. Each game is read from FIBA's own data for that game, not retyped from a report.
- Road to BAL games
- Results and box scores for the qualifying competition come from FIBA's event pages on fiba.basketball. FIBA did not publish a box score for every qualifying game; those games carry the result only.
- Players and clubs
- Nationality, date of birth, height and position come from FIBA's player pages. Where FIBA lists the country a player is registered in rather than the player's own nationality, the nationality is corrected to the player's own and the correction is logged. Club countries and crests come mainly from FIBA.
- What a box score cannot say
- Why a player missed games, playoff roster moves, coaching changes and similar facts come from the league's own articles on bal.nba.com. Each of these facts is stored with the sentence it rests on.
How the data is checked
- Every BAL player line is compared against FIBA's box score for that game.
- Every Road to BAL edition is checked against FIBA's pages for that edition after it is loaded.
- Overtime scoring is split into its periods from FIBA's play-by-play.
- Nothing about identity is guessed. A club that resembles one already in the database is held for a person to review, and a player line whose identity is not settled is withheld until it is.
- Missing data is shown as missing. A game page says when FIBA published only a result, and a total built on partial data says how many games it covers.
Coverage by season
How many games each season holds, and how many of them have a complete box score. A gap here is a gap in what FIBA published, not in what this site loaded.

Definitions
- BAL and Road to BAL
- The Basketball Africa League and its qualifying competition, Road to BAL, are separate competitions. Their statistics are never combined: every BAL record, leaderboard and career total covers BAL games only, and Road to BAL figures live on their own pages.
- Season and edition years
- A BAL season is named for the year it is played. A Road to BAL edition is named for the BAL season it qualifies clubs for, and is played before it, so the table above always shows when an edition was actually played.
- Complete box score
- FIBA published a line for every player who appeared, and all of them are on the site.
- Lines withheld
- The box score is on the site, but one or more player lines are held back until the player's identity is confirmed. The game page says how many.
- Result only
- FIBA published a final score and no box score. The game counts in standings and win-loss records, but adds nothing to player statistics.
- Walkovers
- A game one club did not play carries FIBA's awarded score. It counts in the win-loss record, as FIBA counts it, but is left out of every per-game average and every single-game record.
