Rivers Hoopers have strengthened their backcourt with the signing of South Sudanese guard Jackson Makoi, who is set to make his Basketball Africa League (BAL) debut this season.
Makoi has represented South Sudan in 21 international games, including their historic appearance at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. His addition brings experience to a Rivers Hoopers squad looking to make an impact in the BAL.
The Nigerian club, which secured a bronze medal in the 2024 edition of the tournament, continues to bolster its roster ahead of the upcoming campaign. With Makoi in the lineup, Rivers Hoopers aim to build on their recent success and compete against the best teams in Africa. They had already announced the return of star guard Kelvin Amayo and starting center Peter Olisemeka.
The BAL season is set to tip off on April 5th, with Rivers Hoopers facing Al Ittihad from Egypt, FUS Rabat from Morocco and Stade Malien for Mali.
